鵝媽媽童謠(Mother Goose)是英國民間童謠集，中文譯為鵝媽媽童謠集。這些民間
童謠在英國流傳時間相當久，有的長達數百年，總數約有八百多首，內容典雅，
有幽默故事、遊戲歌曲、兒歌、謎語、催眠曲、字母歌、數數歌、繞口令、動物
歌等，英國人稱其為Nursery Rhymes(兒歌)，美國人稱其為Mother Goose(鵝媽媽
童謠)，是英、美人士從孩童時代就耳熟能詳的兒歌。(註一)
二、起源
0.1鵝媽媽童謠的起源
對於鵝媽媽童謠流傳的時間眾說紛紜，至今無法確切定論。一般有兩種說法，第
一是源自法國作家Charles Perrault 在1697年寫的故事集Contes de ma mère l'Oye
(Tales of MyMother Goose)，之後由英國人收集編輯而成。不過也有十四世紀就
出現的說法。因為大部份的歌詞為了順口的緣故，句末都會押韻，而有些字隨著
時代不同會有不同發音。所以有人發現，某某歌的歌詞如果要押韻的話，應該用
十四世紀的發音才對，因此就有從十四世紀開始流傳的說法。(註二)
0.2鵝媽媽童謠中殘酷句子的起源
著名的「倫敦鐵橋倒下來」、「瑪麗有隻小綿羊」等童謠，都是所謂的鵝媽媽童謠。
恐怖的鵝媽媽童謠
隨著時間的流逝，鵝媽媽童謠的內容不斷擴大，至今包涵數百首童謠，不過有少
數歌詞內容相當的血腥，其最大的原因，即是由於東、西方對死亡的態度不同，
東方人非常避諱談到「死」這個字眼或相關話題；西方人則相反，他們不畏懼談
到關於死亡，甚至對於生死有關的教育皆是從小教起。不過鵝媽媽童謠中的歌
詞，也可以從它的時代背景來看。
18世紀的英國，發生了工業革命，促使資本主義產生，也造成嚴重的貧富不均
與階級對立。使得大多數的人民成了資本主義的工具和犧牲品，他們大多生活困
苦艱難，在這種人心動亂、生活環境差的年代，會出現鵝媽媽童謠裡的這類歌詞
也不會是稀奇的事。有些歌詞是反應時代背景，有些歌詞則是反映了一部份的現
實，發瘋的人、殺人犯、殺了父母的小孩、賣掉小孩的父母…等等，在窮困的時
代皆是常見的角色，把他們的故事寫進童謠中，或許現在的人們看了會無法接
受，但那卻是一個歷史的悲哀。
